The Western Central Regional Police Command has detained three people for illegally possessing firearms and ammunition. The suspects, known as Hakeem Imoro, Imoro Tahiru, and Nurideen Wahab, were detained on Tuesday, April 30, 2025, in Bowodie-Wassa Akropong, Western Region.

The three was apprehended while riding in a Grand Bird Bus with the registration number AS 4431-22 en route to Wassa Akropong. During a regular check, police searched for one of the accused, Hakeem Imoro. The search revealed a submachine gun (SMG) rifle and twenty-one (21) rounds of ammunition secreted on his person.

Preliminary investigations found that Hakeem Imoro claimed his boss gave him the firearm for safekeeping. However, investigators have yet to determine the name of the supposed employer or the reason for bringing the weapon.

All three suspects were promptly apprehended and are now assisting police with further investigations. The police have assured the public that the situation is being handled with utmost care, and that the suspects would be processed and brought before the court in due time.

The arrest demonstrates the Ghana Police Service’s continuous efforts to combat illegal arms possession and guarantee public safety throughout the country. Authorities are advising the public to remain watchful and report any suspicious activity that could jeopardize peace and security in their neighborhoods.
