Thomas Partey who was an unused substitute in Villarreal’s 2-2 draw against Real Betis was named in the starting 11 to face Manchester City on matchday 3 of the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League.
The Ghanaian started in the Villarreal midfield alongside Santi Comesana, Tajon Buchanan and Senegal’s Pape Gueye in a 4-4-2 formation.

Despite parading a strong midfield to face Manchester City, Villarreal were not really a match for Pep Guardiola’s men as Manchester City completely dominated the game for 90 minutes.
City took advantage of their dominance in the game at the Estadio de la Ceramica to secure all three points on matchday three of the 2025/2026 UEFA Champions League.
At the end of 90 minutes, the first half goals from striker Erling Haaland and midfielder Bernardo Silva were enough for Manchester City to win the game on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.
