Tottenham Hotspur head coach, Thomas Frank has publicly confirmed that Spurs tried to sign Antoine Semenyo before the Ghanaian’s transfer to Manchester City.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, Frank went against his usual practice of avoiding comments on players at other clubs by acknowledging that Spurs “did everything” to bring Semenyo to north London.

The manager said it was “clear” the club wanted the Bournemouth star, and that the effort sent a signal of commitment from the Lewis family, Tottenham’s majority owners.

“There’s no doubt it was clear that the club wanted to sign Antoine Semenyo. That’s the quality of players we’re looking for to improve the squad. I think that’s a clear signal that the Lewis family is very committed,” he said.

Semenyo eventually opted to join Manchester City in a deal worth around £62.5–£64 million, becoming one of the most significant African transfers of the winter window.

He has since made a strong start for City, scoring important goals in his first few appearances.
