The residence of former Hohoe Member of Parliament, John Peter Amewu, was reportedly stormed by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, March 5, in what has been described as a politically motivated incident.

According to Amewu, one of the intruders claimed to be a bailiff and insisted that they were there to serve him with a legal notice.

“They said they were there to serve me a notice because I was not duly elected in 2020, hence their decision to serve me. And that the C.I. was not constitutional,” he stated when Citi News contacted him for confirmation.

Further reports indicate that the assailants claimed they were acting on “orders from above,” although no official confirmation has been given regarding the nature of these instructions.

At the time of the incident, Amewu was reportedly not at home. However, tensions escalated as the armed men fired warning shots, prompting a confrontation with some of Amewu’s supporters.

Authorities have yet to provide details on the attackers’ identities or their motivations. Investigations are expected to be launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
