Kafui Danku is the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority Kafui Danku is the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority

Amid complaints from Nigerian filmmakers about movie piracy in Ghana, the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, has stated that she is attempted to suspect that some of these outbursts on social media are more about chasing attention than solving the issue.

Speaking on Hitz FM on August 13, 2025, Kafui said the NFA is working with institutions like the National Communications Authority and the Ministry of Communications to tackle piracy.

But she finds it troubling that some Nigerian filmmakers go online to insult Ghanaians and Ghanaian institutions without providing any evidence to back their claims.

Don’t show my movies! – Bimbo Ademoye warns Ghanaian TV stations over copyright violations

She recalled an incident in April 2025 when Nigerian actress Bimbo Ademoye accused certain Ghanaian TV stations of showing her movies without permission.

According to Kafui, she reached out to Bimbo to request evidence to help with investigations. However, Bimbo reportedly told her that the proof was sent by someone through a disappearing message, which had vanished by the time she needed it.

Kafui Danku admitted that she found this explanation ridiculous, but chose not to push the matter further. Instead, she began to wonder if some of these online attacks were simply a way to use Ghana to gain attention.

Bimbo Ademoye yet to respond to our request of TV stations airing her movies – NFA

“I know this is a major problem we’ve been trying to work on. We’ve met with the NCA, the Minister of Communications, and others. There’s work in progress. But when these Nigerians recently post and abuse the whole country or abuse the institutions without evidence, I am tempted to believe that maybe they are beginning to use us to chase some clout.

“Because recently, after Bimbo lashed out and we reached out to her, I later went on UTV and she saw a headline where I said I reached out but she did not respond. She got in touch, we started chatting, and I asked her, can I have the evidence so we can put it on file and then start working at it?

“She told me that whoever sent that message sent it to her in a disappearing mode, which I think is ridiculous. But I didn’t want to stretch it out because if they are truly using us for some sort of attention, it is working,” Kafui said.
