Former English footballer, Jamie Carragher has said that Arsenal do not have a top-class player capable of making the difference in tough moments as a “genuine superstar”.
The Gunner’s title wining Premier League campaign took a major hit after their 3-2 defeat against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
Reacting to the match, the sports pundit asserted that although Arsenal remain favorites to win the league, they lack an outstanding player who can produce magic to win the games.

He named Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah and Chelsea legend Eden Hazard as genuine superstars who delivered big performances to lead their clubs to win the titles.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher warned that if head coach Mikel Arteta does not address the issue, Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League could be derailed.
“The thing I would say is, when people look at this, there’s a lot of criticism around Arteta. Who cares as long as you win? And I still believe they will win. So there’s no big deal about the way Arteta goes about it. But what I would say is Arsenal, and I’ve always felt this would stop them winning the Premier League, but I don’t think it will this season.”
“They don’t have a genuine superstar at the top end of the pitch. They don’t have someone who’s going to do what Salah did last season or what Haaland did for Manchester City or what Hazard did for Chelsea. They lack that player,” he said.
The former Liverpool defender also questioned the calibre of Arsenal’s attackers, suggesting that none of them would make it into the Premier League’s best front four.
“And what’s really interesting is halfway through the season, or if you picked it right now, I picked team of the season so far. When have you ever seen a team at the top of the table who’ve been ahead by six or seven points?
“But if you were picking the best team in the Premier League so far, you wouldn’t have one of their players in the front four. That is not normal. The best team in the league would always have at least one, maybe two players in the team of the season,” he added.
