Theo Von has claimed that a high-level government official offered him ‘extra security’ after he received an onslaught of online harassment for appearing in a Department of Homeland Security deportation video.

In late September, DHS posted the since-deleted video to its social media accounts and included a clip of Von saying, ‘Heard you got deported, dude, bye,’ without his permission.

In the latest episode of his podcast, This Past Weekend, the 40-year-old comedian addressed the situation and revealed he was inundated with negative messages for appearing to sign off on the Trump administration’s mass deportation policy.

‘People are sending messages and hateful stuff,’ he said. ‘It just was something they used and put out there and everybody saw, right? So, I’m getting a ton of hateful stuff.

‘This video goes everywhere and I’m getting a lot of like, “Dude, what the f***?” Just all kinds of s***, right? Like, my phone just blew. I’m like, “What the hell?” It’s just like the last thing I needed, right?’ he added.

Von then said the federal government was aware of the harassment he was facing, which led to someone contacting him.

‘I woke up the next morning to a text from a high government official saying, “Hey, if you need some extra security in your neighborhood or some extra police cars on patrol, let me know.” And I’m like, “What? What are you talking about? Extra security?”‘ he said.

‘I don’t even know the code to my Ring camera,’ he joked. ‘I don’t even know how to log into it. And you’re gonna just put police cars in my neighborhood, what are my neighbors gonna think? Now they’re fearful?’

The clip of Von that kicked off this series of events was originally recorded as a request from a fan of his who whose friend recently got deported.

Von was simply recording a funny, Cameo-style message for the person who was deported.

He has repeatedly said that his views on immigration are ‘more nuanced’ than that video shows.

His father emigrated from Nicaragua and Von said his immigration papers are one of his prized possessions.

For many liberals, Von has become associated with the current administration and his policies ever since he interviewed Trump in August 2024.

However, Von has never explicitly said that he supports Trump, unlike Joe Rogan, who also interviewed the president on the campaign trail.

Von did attend the inauguration, describing the event as ‘inspiring and saying he was ‘lucky’ to be there.
