Following his silence throughout the controversy that erupted when his camp member, MC Portfolio, received a GH¢5,000 gift from his nemesis Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy has finally spoken.

Many had assumed that this development would spell the end of the dancehall musician’s relationship with MC Portfolio, especially given the betrayal allegations that surfaced after Portfolio accepted money from his rival, Shatta Wale.

Given Stonebwoy’s history of quietly distancing himself from conflicts within his camp, such as with the Kelvynboy situation, many believed his silence on this issue was heading in a similar direction, towards a split.

However, this situation seems different. Stonebwoy appears to have ignored calls to blacklist MC Portfolio or publicly chastise him for ‘betraying’ him, as many had anticipated.

Instead, he has gone after his nemesis, Shatta Wale, for what he described as luring and deceiving Portfolio with the GH¢ 5,000 gift.

In a conversation with Angel FM’s Ike De Unpredictable, Stonebwoy said, “Don’t you know the tricks of this man? This trickster? This settings man? He set him (MC Portfolio) up with GH¢ 5,000. He’s keeping tons of five cedi notes in his room so he thinks he has money.”

He added, “He (Shatta) met him (Portfolio) and wanted to intimidate him with five cedi notes. Ask him (pointing to Portfolio), how many times have I promised to give him stuff? How much is GH¢ 5,000? By God’s grace, I have more than GH¢ 5,000 to offer.”

Stonebwoy also made it clear that his usual silence on issues does not mean he is unwilling to speak up when necessary.

“Do you guys actually think we are scared to speak up?” he queried.

Stonebwoy made these statements while Portfolio was present in the studio, remaining still throughout.

    Background

What was described as the true test of MC Portfolio’s loyalty recently occurred when he came face-to-face with Shatta Wale.

After a period of publicly criticising Shatta, particularly on social media, MC Portfolio found himself in a more complicated situation on live TV during the ‘Fakye Showbiz’ program.

In an unexpected turn of events, Shatta Wale handed MC Portfolio GH¢5,000 live on air.

MC Portfolio’s reaction was a mixture of shock, confusion, and excitement, as he initially questioned why Shatta was giving him the money but accepted it nonetheless.

    The aftermath

The aftermath of this development sent shock across the industry. Many individuals, including Stonebwoy’s close associates, criticised MC Portfolio for accepting money from Shatta Wale, viewing it as a sign of disloyalty.

Some went as far as to claim that Shatta had cleverly used the gift to weaken Stonebwoy’s relationship with one of his key supporters.

DJ Slim, a prominent figure close to Stonebwoy, expressed disappointment during a discussion on his ‘Street is Watching’ podcast.

He expressed that, as a known member of Stonebwoy’s camp, MC Portfolio should never have accepted money from his rival Shatta Wale.

DJ Slim also pointed out MC Portfolio’s apparent shift in behaviour when interacting with Shatta, particularly his body language, which he interpreted as a sign of betrayal.

Slim also criticised the timing of the gift, questioning why Shatta would give MC Portfolio money publicly rather than behind the scenes.

He reminded MC Portfolio that while Shatta Wale had given him money, Stonebwoy had given him much more, exposure and support.
