It’s been nearly two months since runaway teen Celeste Rivas Hernandez was found dead in the front trunk of an impounded Tesla belonging to singer D4vd.
Her severely decomposed remains were discovered on September 8 at a tow yard in the Hollywood Hills. The vehicle had been impounded just days earlier, and police were alerted after a worker reported a foul stench coming from inside.
Rivas had been missing for more than a year when the tragic discovery was made. She ran away from her home in Lake Elsinore, California, in April 2024.
She would’ve turned 15 the day before her body was found, but evidence suggests she’d been dead for some time.
For the past several weeks, the LAPD has remained almost entirely silent as detectives work to answer the lingering questions surrounding the case – including how Celeste died, when, and who placed her inside D4vd’s car.
No suspects have been named and no arrests made. Police said in a statement last month that investigators are currently unsure whether there is ‘any criminal culpability beyond the concealment’ of Rivas’s remains.
As the investigation continues, Senior Reporter Luke Kenton has taken an in-depth look at what we know about the Rivas case so far for the Daily Mail’s Crime Desk – exploring potential ties between the tragic teen and D4vd, and allegations of a troubled home life.

The LAPD has not confirmed any connection between Rivas and Burke, but the matter remains under investigation.
Burke was out of state performing when Rivas’s remains were found. He quietly canceled the remainder of his world tour after she was publicly identified the following week.
He has not publicly addressed her death, and it remains unclear whether he’s cooperating with investigators.
Burke has not been accused of any crimes.
