GFA president, Kurt Okraku

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has urged the champions of the Women’s Premier League, Police Ladies FC to believe in their own abilities ahead of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire.

The GFA boss joined Police Ladies FC at the University of Ghana training grounds on Friday, August 15, 2025, where he observed their training session and offered words of encouragement.

He urged the team to remain confident and determined as they head to Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, for the prestigious sub-regional competition.

“The opposition that will confront you in Côte d’Ivoire is not better than you are,” he declared, stressing that the team’s preparation and skill place them as challenging contenders.

He continued that “we are Ghana and when it comes to football we are Ghana therefore we should go out of the country with all the confidence we have”.

Police Ladies, drawn in Group B, will begin their campaign against Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens FC on Sunday, August 24. They will then face Benin’s Sam Nelly and Togo’s ASKO, with their final group match against ASKO scheduled for Saturday, August 30.

The qualifiers, which will run from August 23 to September 4, will be staged at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro. The semifinals are set for Tuesday, September 2, with the final and third-place playoff taking place on Saturday, September 5.

The winner of the WAFU B tournament will secure the sole ticket to represent the zone at the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
