Entertainment pundit and media personality Ola Michael has expressed concern over the growing trend of young Ghanaian musicians glorifying hard drugs in their songs.

According to him, such music could lead to an increase in social vices, particularly among high school students who may emulate the behaviors promoted in these songs.

“Musicians are happily singing about smoking and taking certain mixtures, and children are consuming it. These songs are part of why many forms of drugs are common among the youth,” he stated.

Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV on February 8, 2025, Ola Michael highlighted the potential long-term consequences of this trend.

“With time, the country might be in a bad position as several of the youth may abuse these drugs,” he said.

He urged authorities in the music industry to take immediate action to address the issue and prevent a future surge in mental health problems.

“We should have some sort of censorship on these songs. Nobody has banned any song; it was a media house that said it won’t play a certain song. There is no censorship board anywhere. Why is everybody quiet?” he questioned.

His comments come in the wake of the deteriorating mental health of Ghanaian musician Okomfour Kwadee, who has struggled with drug use and abuse for several years.

“Kwadee’s issue has come up, and now we are talking. But what about those who have it worse than him? Right now, smoking and drugs have become so common because they have been normalized by these artistes,” he lamented.
