Ghana went to the polls on December 7, 2024. Ghana went to the polls on December 7, 2024.

More details are emerging from the December 7, 2024, general elections that provide insight into the humiliating defeat suffered by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In the Upper East Region, for instance, where the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) swept all seats in Parliament, the performance of the ruling party was worse.

The performance was so bad that in as many as 20 polling stations in the Bawku and Binduri constituencies, the NPP got zero votes in the presidential election.

The people of Bawku have faulted the NPP for the resurgence of the chieftaincy dispute in the area, and it appears they took their frustration to the ballot box.

The NPP not getting even 1 vote in the 20 polling stations means that not even the party’s local executives voted for them.

This could be due to the banning of NPP campaign activities by the overlord of the Bawku, Zuraan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago II, who accused the presidential candidate of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and his party of being responsible for the resurgence of the fighting in Bawku.
