There was lighthearted drama in Parliament when veteran lawmaker Collins Dauda accidentally referred to the Deputy Minority Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, as a “witch” during his submission on a matter involving the late Ali Jarrah on the floor of Parliament on Friday, August 1, 2025.

“Mr Speaker, with regards to Ali Jarrah, the situation that has been described to us by the Deputy Minority witch…” Dauda began, before quickly correcting himself with laughter erupting across the chamber.

Realising the slip, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South promptly clarified.

“While I support the position, Mr Speaker, by accident I referred to him as a witch. It was by accident, and I humbly withdraw. I meant to say Deputy Minority Whip,” he said, adding lightheartedly, “You are not a witch.”

The Speaker acknowledged the retraction, saying, “He has corrected himself. Yes, he has withdrawn.”

The exchange sent waves of laughter through the house, as MPs enjoyed the unexpected comic relief in an otherwise serious proceeding.

Former Ghana U17 World Cup-winning goalkeeper Ali Jarrah has made an emotional appeal to former President John Dramani Mahama, describing him as his last hope for state assistance, three decades after an injury ended his football career at just 17.

Jarrah, who was part of Ghana’s victorious squad at the 1991 FIFA U17 World Cup, recently took to Facebook to issue a distress call, recounting the back injury that left him paralysed for months after the 1993 tournament in Japan.

Now 49, the former Hearts of Oak shot-stopper says he is holding onto hope that support will eventually come.
