Legendary Ghanaian footballer Anthony Baffoe has applauded the Black Queens following their 2-0 loss to the Lionesses of England in an international friendly on December 2, 2025.

England created several chances, hitting the woodwork four times, but were made to work hard for their breakthrough.

Lucia Kendall opened the scoring after six minutes, with substitute Alessia Russo adding a stoppage-time penalty.

In a game where many expected the Lionesses to score an avalanche of goals, Cynthia Konlan rose to the occasion and produced top-notch saves to prevent a humiliating scoreline.

Reacting to this, Baffoe noted that he was impressed with the team’s performance despite their defeat to England, the reigning European champions.

He called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team and promote women’s football in the country to give it more visibility and enhance the sport.

Baffoe asserted that with the right support, the current squad could reach greater heights in the near future.

“Walaii Black Queens, we have a team. Let’s support women’s football to the maximum. Our ladies are solid,” he wrote on X.

The Black Queens qualified for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a commanding win over Egypt in the qualifiers.

Their performance in upcoming competitions will determine their qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
