Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah says the players are highly motivated and eager to make a strong impression at the highly-anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The current vice-chairman of the Black Stars management committee made these remarks as the team continued with preparations in North America ahead of Friday’s international friendly against Mexico.
According to Appiah, the players are fully focused and determined to make the country proud at football’s biggest stage.
“The players cannot wait to be at the Mundial to perform and show what they can offer the team,” Appiah said.
“So I am happy as a Ghanaian and with the support of the country, the players are determined to impress at the World Cup,” he added.
Appiah, who captained Ghana during the country’s historic debut appearance at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, remains one of the most respected figures around the national team setup.
The Black Stars are currently preparing for two international friendlies against Mexico which is tomorrow, May 22 and Wales on June 2, as coach Carlos Queiroz finalises his squad for the tournament.
Ghana will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27 in Group L.
The four-time African champions will be hoping to avoid another early exit after suffering group-stage eliminations at both the 2014 and 2022 FIFA World Cups.
