Ghanaian actor and content creator, Benson, popularly known as ‘Benson the Actor’, has opened up about the difficult journey he endured before finding his footing in the movie industry.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on January 13, 2026, Benson disclosed that his journey into acting began after he quit dancing, an activity he once relied on without a clear sense of direction.
“The funny thing is, I was a dancer years ago. When I was dancing, I didn’t know what I was doing with my life. I used to dance by the roadside,” he said.
According to him, a comment from a certain woman who said she would never date a dancer pushed him to reconsider his path.
“One day, a certain lady made a comment that she would never date a dancer so I decided to divert into acting,” he stated.
Benson explained that people often described him as funny, which encouraged him to pursue acting seriously.
“I can act too and people used to say I’m funny so I took advantage of that,” he noted.
Recounting his early days in the film industry, the actor described the harsh realities he faced while chasing his dreams.
“I used to follow a friend when going on set but we were not getting any money from it. We would travel to different regions and end up sleeping on bare floors,” he shared.

He mentioned that even when given the opportunity to appear on set, roles were not guaranteed.
“The directors would sometimes give us just one scene to play and other times, we don’t get any scene to play but rather be following the cameramen around and help them with their bags,” he recounted.
Despite the struggles, Benson said his faith in God and exposure to established celebrities kept him going.
“I had faith in God. I nearly gave up in acting but what motivated me more was I seeing the celebrities on set. I asked myself if I would be seeing celebrities most often, then why would I stop?
“Even if they don’t give me a role to play, being around the celebrities and seeing them act was exciting to me,” he revealed.
Benson further disclosed that his social media posts created a false impression that he was financially stable.
“People assumed things were going well for me because I used to post videos and pictures with the celebrities. I would be on set for months but I lied to my dad that I was getting money and I was okay so my family shouldn’t be bothered,” he said.
He encouraged young people to stay focused and resilient in pursuit of their purpose.
“You have to know your purpose in life and be strong. Just know what you want and focus on whatever you think would help,” Benson added.
