Reggae Dancehall artiste Ras Kuuku has expressed his desire to be nominated in the Gospel category at the 2025 TGMAs.

Speaking in an interview with DJ Slim on Hitz FM, he disclosed that he is not only focused on the “Male Vocalist of the Year” award but also has his eyes set on the “Gospel Song of the Year” award.

When DJ Slim pointed out that the Gospel category is exclusively for gospel musicians, Ras Kuuku referenced Nacee, who is also widely recognised as a music producer.

“But Nacee is not a gospel musician. He is a producer,” Ras Kuuku said.

DJ Slim countered, stating that Nacee has equally released numerous gospel songs for which people predominantly know him.

Ras Kuuku again responded, “But he has a lot of ‘Kwen Kwen’ (political) songs too.”

He also questioned why reggae and dancehall artistes are seemingly excluded from winning gospel awards, while artistes from other genres can win in the reggae and dancehall categories.

“But we the Reggae artistes don’t have the right to win the gospel song of the year?” he questioned.

Meanwhile, the TGMA board has introduced a new award category; Best Urban/Contemporary Gospel Song.

This category recognises the most popular gospel song that seamlessly blends contemporary genres like R&B, hip-hop, and pop with traditional gospel elements.

To qualify, the song is expected to be commercially released within the year under review.

It is also supposed to garner massive public excitement and widespread popularity and must be performed by a gospel artiste.

The winner will be determined by a combination of votes from the TGMA Academy, the Board, and the general public.
