Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Courage Kafui Nunekpeku, has called on the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate some of the company’s past activities.

Nunekpeku made this announcement while briefing staff on the state of TDC during a staff durbar.

He mentioned that he had conducted extensive assessments across all the company’s departments and discovered that “there were issues everywhere.”

“In the coming days, there are going to be a lot of investigations. This morning, I have written two letters to EOCO to look into something in the IT department. IT contracts were awarded for one million dollars, and we don’t have access to that software, so EOCO will intervene in it,” he added.

He also mentioned that he had written another letter to EOCO regarding another issue, which he preferred to remain discreet about.

Additionally, he stated that the company would be conducting extensive property and land audits to verify initial findings related to TDC’s lands.

The MD encouraged staff who might have information or been involved in underhand dealings over the past years to voluntarily approach him with the necessary details, rather than waiting to be discovered.

Nunekpeku cautioned, “If you don’t come forward, and we conduct investigations and find out, I won’t accept any pleas, whether you were a polling agent or have worked in the company for years, because you have been given the opportunity today.”

He further announced that the company would not be purchasing new vehicles for management staff, but would instead buy Urvan buses, a backhoe, a dumper, and a tipper truck, as these would be more beneficial to the enhancement of TDC.

He called on all staff to cooperate with management in turning around the fortunes of TDC, reminding them that private estate companies were thriving, and therefore, TDC, with its vast assets and government backing, could be transformed into a world-class company.

“There is no way we are going to achieve this unless we are intentional about it. We need all of your support to work as a team. It’s not about how much money you want to make; if it were about that, we could make good money in the private sector. But per the instructions from the President, TDC should be fixed; otherwise, entities like TMA and the State Housing Corporation would absorb it,” he stressed.

The MD warned that the days of corruption, falsification of invoices, and fraudulent presentations of invoices must come to an end, urging staff to be vigilant and scrutinize matters thoroughly.

He said, “In the few weeks I’ve been in office, some of the things I have seen will blow your mind. Because I come from the private sector, I scrutinize everything. You have to examine invoices before even forwarding them for approval…”

He claimed that he had received an invoice of GH¢45,000 for washing curtains in a former Managing Director’s house, calling it outrageous.

“Then let’s buy a washing machine for GH¢15,000 and detergent for GH¢1,000 and wash and store the machine,” he added.

Nunekpeku urged all staff to be responsible citizens by protecting the company’s assets and the country’s finances.
