Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey has spoken publicly for the first time after Italian Serie A side ACF Fiorentina terminated his contract following a serious ACL injury that brought his difficult spell at the club to an abrupt end.
In an emotional farewell message shared on social media, the 25-year-old admitted his frustration at being unable to make the desired impact during his stay in Florence.
“I was truly excited to play at Franchi, to wear this shirt, and to help the team on the pitch and give the fans something to cheer for,” Lamptey wrote while thanking the club’s supporters and staff for standing by him throughout his recovery.
Lamptey joined Fiorentina from Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. last year but endured a nightmare period plagued by injury. After a brief substitute appearance, the Ghana international suffered a devastating ACL injury during his first start after landing awkwardly and being forced off the pitch.
The setback kept him sidelined for 234 days, causing him to miss 45 matches. Before moving to Italy, Lamptey made 122 appearances for Brighton and also featured for Chelsea F.C..
He is now expected to seek a new club to revive his career.
