Hard-punching flyweight JBC#13 Shogo Tanaka (6-0-1, 4 KOs; amateur 60-5, 20 stoppages), 112, impressively turned the tables and captured the OPBF and Japanese national flyweight belt when he hit the deck in the first, but came back hard and finally scored a come-from-behind stoppage of southpaw defending champ Sho Nogami (8-1, 4 KOs), 112, at 1:26 of the eighth round on Thursday in Tokyo.
The champ connected with a southpaw right hook following a straight left to the belly, flooring the challenger in round one. Tanaka gradually kept on pressing the action and finally caught him with a flurry of punches, dropping him back with a solid right. He furiously followed it up to prompt the referee’s intervention. The tallies had been all 67-65 in the dethroned champ’s favor.
Promoter: Ohashi Promotions.
