Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edudzi Tameklo, has paid tribute to the late Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, describing his passing as a profound loss not only to the party but to the nation as a whole.
Speaking to GhanaWeb on August 8, 2025, Tameklo emphasised the deep respect and honour owed to Murtala, citing his dedication and commitment to service.
“Because we are all frontline communicators of our party, we were always in constant touch. I remember attending our communication meetings together, and any time one of us was on set, the other was always in contact, either via phone, helping out with information and support,” he stated.
Tameklo also recalled witnessing Murtala effortlessly recite the Quran, describing it as a reflection of his spiritual grounding and personal discipline.
“He was a man of deep faith. His faith in Islam was something he never hid. I’ve seen him recite the Quran effortlessly on several occasions. I think he is someone we will remember greatly,” he said.
James Avedzi describes Dr Murtala Mohammed as a firm, reliable colleague
He described the late Tamale Central MP as a “gem” within the NDC, best known for his integrity and commitment to unity.
“The NDC in Tamale Central has lost a gem, that’s how I would describe him, a gem. Such a towering figure. And Murtala was the kind of person who, if reconciliation was needed to move the agenda of our party forward, would never hesitate. This is a great loss,” he added.
