Kwesi Ernest, a member of Table of Men, a Christian advocacy group committed to promoting gospel musicians in Ghana, has announced that the group will not support campaigns for gospel artistes who do not actively promote their own work.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, the music executive stated that the group will only endorse gospel artistes for the TGMA ‘Artiste of the Year’ category if they demonstrate genuine commitment and seriousness in their craft.

Kwesi Ernest’s comments come in response to claims that the Table of Men have remained unusually silent following Joe Mettle and Team Eternity Ghana securing nominations for the Artiste of the Year category at the forthcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

Many have questioned why the group, known for its strong advocacy and instrumental role in rallying support for gospel artistes such as Diana Hamilton, who won Artiste of the Year in 2021, has not been vocal about this year’s gospel nominations.

In response, Kwesi Ernest clarified the group’s stance.

“The Table of Men cannot just jump onto the streets, radio stations and platforms and begin campaigning for someone who has received Artiste of the Year nomination simply because the person is a gospel artiste,” he stated.

According to him, a nomination alone is not enough to warrant the group’s support.

He emphasised that the group’s support is based on how proactive and engaged the nominated artistes and their teams are in driving their own campaigns.

“If the nominee in question and their management realise that there are leaders, people who are influential in the Table of Men, and decide to meet us to draw a plan to actually campaign and support our activation, why not? We are a family. We will do it,” he assured.

Kwesi Ernest further established that the group will not put in effort where there is apathy or laziness on the part of the artiste.

“But the Table of Men will not go and climb a tree when the person who has received the nomination is sleeping comfortably in his 16-inch bed. It doesn’t work like that. We cannot do that,” he added.
