Sydney trains has been hit by a second delay in hours after a man attempted to take his own life at Central Station, disrupting services.

Transport NSW said a man jumped in front of a train at 11.45am on Tuesday before being taken away by emergency services.

He was believed to be alive at the time.

Train services have since resumed, but delays are continuing between Central Station and Bondi Junction.

Sydney Trains has warned passengers to allow extra travel time, with trains potentially stopping at platforms or between stations for longer than usual.

It comes after tens of thousands of residents faced a nightmare commute to work with train services temporarily suspended on the north shore.

Urgent repairs on overhead wiring at Chatswood station halted all city-bound trains in the morning.

The repairs caused widespread disruptions on the T1 North Shore and Western Line, the T9 Northern Line, Central Coast and Newcastle lines in both directions.

Sydney trains has been hit by a second delay in hours after a man attempted to take his own life at Central Station, disrupting services.

Crews spent the night working on the wire repairs.

Sydney Trains chief executive Matt Longland apologised to all the passengers affected and said repairs were completed.

‘I want to start by apologising to passengers who were caught up in the rail delays on the North Shore line,’ he said.

‘I acknowledge that did create some significant impacts for passengers travelling to work this morning, university and other travellers who were moving on the North Shore line towards Sydney.

‘The good news is that the repairs are now complete and that we are 100 per cent focused on restoring the timetable for the afternoon peak.’

Mr Longland also thanked commuters for their patience.

‘Our priority throughout this incident was the safety of passengers and staff,’ he said.

‘We thank passengers for their patience while specialist crews worked overnight to repair the damaged overhead wiring and carry out the testing required to safely restore services.’
