Donald Trump‘s willingness to talk to journalists off-the-cuff has further highlighted just how frail and frightened of gaffes Joe Biden was.

The newly-inaugurated president has spoken to reporters multiple times this week while coming and going from the White House and on official visits.

Trump, 78, is happy to take questions that haven’t been pre-approved and will happily tussle with journalists he disagrees with.

It will be a shift from the last four years, with 82 year-old Biden avoiding unscripted press interactions in a bid to hide his mental decline, until it was spectacularly exposed by his disastrous June 2024 debate against Trump.

On Friday, as he headed to North Carolina to tour the area devastated by hurricane Helene, Trump stopped several times to talk to the press, bringing back his famous ‘chopper time’ impromptu press conferences.

Speaking on Friday’s episode of Welcome to MAGAland: Inside Trump’s Second 100 Days,’ Daily Mail Senior Political Reporter Charlie Spiering said ‘we used to call it chopper time back in the old Trump days.’

‘He stops by and talks to the press when he’s on the move. And what’s interesting about that is typically you get a lot more reporters out there for the chopper time than you do in the Oval Office or anywhere else.

‘So you never know what kind of question is going to get asked.’

Donald Trump brought back ‘chopper time’ and spoke to the press several times throughout the day on Friday as he headed to North Carolina

It’s a shift from the last four years, as Joe Biden preferred carefully choreographed interactions with the press

Spiering and MAGAland host, chief reporter Germania Rodriguez Poleo also discussed Trump’s executive orders and the local officials who have pledged to defy them.

They also touched on what’s really behind the move by Republican senators Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins to oppose Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth.

‘It’s calculated,’ Spiering shared.

‘Murkowski and Collins believe that they can be dissident Republicans without tanking the nomination entirely.’
