Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency, John Ntim Fordjour, has condemned the decision by the Ashanti Regional Minister to vent at firefighters who were risking their lives to save property and lives during the Adum fires.
According to him, the fire service has not been resourced enough, and therefore their efforts must be appreciated with the little resources at their disposal rather than disrespecting them.
He questioned why the government did not save money to support the Ghana National Fire Service but allocated huge funding to the Communications Department of the Presidency.
“Part of the Ghc2.7 billion allocated to Government Machinery, including the Ghc78.8 million allocated to Kwakye Ofosu’s one man Ministry of Government Communications for ‘chop chop’, could have been saved and allocated to Ghana National Fire Service, to be utilised for the procurement of state-of-the-art quantum fire tenders and sophisticated fire fighter equipment to promptly and effectively deal with fire incidents in Ghana?” a portion of the post by the MP on ‘X’ read.
His opinion made in a tweet added that “Ashanti Regional ‘TikTok’ Minister is ranting and venting his frustration at Ghana National Fire Service while Dumsor sadly sets ablaze hard-earned stores and properties of our dear brothers and sisters in Adum.
“I have just 2 questions for him: 1. Would the fire had started if Dumsor had not returned to Kumasi with his government?
“2. Couldn’t half of the Ghc2.7 billion allocated to Government Machinery, including the Ghc78.8 million allocated to Kwakye Ofosu’s one man Ministry of Government Communications for ‘chop chop’, be saved and allocated to Ghana National Fire Service, and utilised for the procurement of state-of-the-art quantum fire tenders and sophisticated fire fighter equipment to promptly and effectively deal with fire incidents in Ghana? They stop the ranting and lamentations and prioritize public safety over create loot and chop. Ghana is all we have! My sincere sympathies to the affected traders” the post read.
