Ghanaian reggae/dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has responded to some criticisms from Stonebwoy pior to his performance at Vybz Kartel’s concert in Jamaica.
In a video making rounds on social media on January 4, 2025, Shatta Wale accused the “Jejereje” hitmaker of being driven by jealousy, claiming that Stonebwoy’s statements were merely out of envy.
He further explained that in 2025, he would no longer engage with individuals or negative comments aimed at bringing him down.
“Unless you are a jealous person, you would want to fight others. But I won’t fight anyone this year because I’m not a fighter like Nelson Azumah. I’m here to speak the truth and focus on building the industry so that everyone can benefit,” Shatta Wale stated.
The musician then reflected on the long journey it took for him to share the stage with Vybz Kartel, stating that it had been a lifelong dream.
“I told myself the first time I would perform in Jamaica, it should be with Vybz Kartel. It took me 20 years to make that happen. Before he was arrested, I wanted to perform with him, and then he went to jail. I had to wait for him for thirteen years for this to become a reality,” he added.
Shatta Wale also addressed online comparisons between himself and Stonebwoy after a viral video showed him speaking Patois with some unknown individuals.
“When you are true to yourself, you will go places. People need to understand that I come from somewhere. I’m even learning Spanish now because the lady who saved me is Spanish,” he explained.
