Ghanaian sports broadcaster Monica Bukari has criticised Ghanaians for mocking Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare for using public transport.

Bukari argues that Asare is only now beginning to flourish in his career after spending years playing in Ghana on a modest salary.

“I’m sure he has always used public transport. Why are people putting pressure on him just because he was called up to the Black Stars? He is 32 years old, playing in the Ghana Premier League, and has never moved abroad or secured an international contract. He plays for Accra Hearts of Oak,” she said on GHOne TV.

“We all know that GPL salaries are not substantial. After receiving his Black Stars call-up, whatever money he has earned, this is not the time for Benjamin Asare to buy a car. Nobody should pressure him.”

Asare was recently spotted commuting in a public transport vehicle, locally known as a “trotro.”

In a viral video circulating on social media, he is seen seated in the front seat, wearing a black shirt.

The video has sparked reactions from football fans, following Asare’s impressive performances in Ghana’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where he kept clean sheets in both matches.
