Entertainment pundit and music publicist Vida Adutwumwaa has criticised social media commentators and broadcasters for labelling Ghanaian women “cheap” amid the ongoing controversy involving a Russian content creator accused of secretly filming intimate encounters with some women in Ghana and sharing the videos online.

The remarks were made during an appearance on UTV United Showbiz on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Adutwumwaa said she was hurt by the trend of public commentaries that focused on shaming the women featured in the viral videos, rather than condemning the actions of the foreign man who recorded and disseminated the footage without consent.

According to her, many commentators were quick to judge without understanding the full context of what happened between the initial conversations and when the women appeared in the videos.

“One thing Ghanaians did on social media which has pained me is that people sat on TV and radio and on social media to call Ghanaian women ‘cheap.’

“People do not really know what happened between the time he spoke to them and the time they showed up at his house. The videos the guy posted were edited. So, until we know what really happened, we can’t label them as ‘cheap’,” Adutwumwaa said.

According to government statements, the Russian suspect is alleged to have recorded and posted videos of several Ghanaian women without their knowledge, prompting national outrage and a formal diplomatic response.

The media personality argued that public attention should instead be directed toward condemning the man’s actions.

Adutwumwaa welcomed the responses from government bodies, including the Ministry of Communication, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“I was happy when the Ministers of Communication, Gender and Foreign Affairs reacted to the matter and offered support for the women involved.

“The communication ministry pointed out that sharing the videos was a crime, the gender ministry offered psychological assistance to the women, and the foreign affairs ministry was in talks with the Russian Embassy. That was good,” she noted.

She described these reactions as positive developments in a difficult situation.

Meanwhile, the man has been identified to be a 36-year-old Russian national, Vladislav Luilkov.

The government released the suspect’s passport details and has initiated international legal processes to ensure he faces charges once he leaves Russia.
