President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, has praised some Ghanaian music acts who still take time off their busy schedules to support the institution.

During an interview on Joy Prime on October 16, 2025, Bessa Simons noted that while many major artistes are busy touring, some still make time to back MUSIGA publicly.

He specifically mentioned Kofi Kinaata, Black Sherif and Stonebwoy, who made some donations during the COVID pandemic in 2020.

“All over the world, top musicians are always busy touring. But some of them still look back and come to support the union. Over the years, we’ve had some musicians who come like Kofi Kinaata, Black Sherif and many others.

“For Stonebwoy, I remember during the COVID time, he gave the union rice, oil, foodstuffs, and so many things and we shared it for the whole world,” he said.

Answering the question on future plans for the body and how it hopes to nurture young talents, Simons said one of the union’s next initiatives is to host an interactive session between emergent musicians and established acts.

He added that these connections will raise morale, visibility, and opportunities for the younger generation.

“One of the plans is next year, during our Ghana music Month in March, we’re planning to get the young up-and-coming musicians to meet with the top artists, like Shatta Wale, to meet them and interact with them.

“And these things will boost their morale and let them do more. So that is still in the pipeline,” he said.

He also emphasised the importance of visibility, stating that union support should not remain hidden behind closed doors, but be seen and felt by the public and industry alike.
