Veteran musician Kwabena Kwabena has shared his thoughts on the trend of young artistes in Ghana moving away from Highlife music to explore other genres.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Kwabena Kwabena, who has been in the music industry for over 20 years, emphasised that Highlife remains the key to producing timeless African hit songs.

Kwabena Kwabena expressed disappointment that many young artistes are opting for different music styles, despite the fact that many of today’s biggest hits are deeply rooted in Highlife, proving its relevance.

“Highlife is thriving, and if you want hits, stick to the genre. Some may consider it old-school, but many of Ghana’s top hits, like Fameye’s Very Soon, King Paluta’s Makoma, KiDi’s Lomo Lomo, and even Stonebwoy’s Jejereje, are all rooted in Highlife,” he said.

Looking back on his two-decade-long career, Kwabena Kwabena expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his fans over the years.

“I am humbled, honestly. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Almighty God and to my fans all over the world for their continuous support,” he said.

He added that staying relevant in the music industry for so long has been his greatest reward.

“Being in the industry for almost two decades is my biggest reward. Next year marks 20 years, and staying relevant all this time is the greatest gift God has given me,” he added.
