Jordan Ayew, Leicester forward

Leicester City head coach Steve Cooper has provided an update on Jordan Ayew’s injury, noting that while the situation is less severe than initially feared, the timeline for his return remains uncertain.

Ayew sustained the injury during Ghana’s critical 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola, where his stunning free-kick gave Ghana a temporary lead before the match ended in a disappointing draw.

Following the game, the Ghana Football Association confirmed that the Leicester forward would miss the final qualifying match against Niger as he returned to his club for assessment.

During a press conference on Thursday, November 21, 2024, Cooper played down the severity of Ayew’s injury compared to initial reports.

“It’s not a serious injury contrary to some reports. The hope is he may be available for the weekend, but we’re a little inconclusive on that for the moment,” he said.

Jordan Ayew joined Leicester City at the start of the 2024/25 season after seven seasons with Crystal Palace.

Since his arrival, Ayew has been a key attacking option, featuring in 10 Premier League matches and scoring two crucial goals.
