Sprint sensation Amy Hunt continued her sizzling summer by storming to a landmark European gold in Birmingham.

The 24-year-old clocked 11.00s to land her first major individual triumph and dethrone reigning champion Dina Asher-Smith, who finished fifth.

‘I was getting fed up of silver,’ said Hunt, who finished second in the Commonwealth Games final in Glasgow. ‘It is so special to do this at home.’

Hunt narrowly held off Poland’s Eva Swoboda, who finished two-hundredths of a second behind, with Belgium’s Delphine Nkansa earning bronze.

Hunt was part of the British quartet who won 4x100m gold in Rome two years ago and now stands alone as the fastest woman on the continent.

It is the start of what she hopes will be a memorable week, with the Grantham rocket competing across four fronts in Birmingham and chanelling High School Musical in the build-up by stating ‘I want it all’.

And having claimed a breakthrough World Championship silver over 200m in Tokyo last year, few would bet against Hunt adding to her tally in the coming days.

Her success came hot on the heels of Britain’s first medal, as Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich, Toby Harries and Yemi Mary John combined for mixed 4x400m relay silver behind Norway, who set a new Championship record of 3:09.62.

Scott Lincoln was left to rue another near miss as he finished fourth in the men’s shot put.
