The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has rewarded Black Queens of Ghana with a $2000 cash prize for reaching the quarter-finals in the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament.

Ghana kicked off the campaign with a 2-0 defeat against South Africa before being held to a 1-1 draw against Mali.

However, in their final Group C game on Monday July 14, 2025, the Black Queens secured a resounding 4-1 win against Tanzania to finish second with four points.

This means the Black Queens have booked a place in the last eight of the tournament for the first time in nine years.

Following the win, the Sports Ministry rewarded the team with a financial package as further motivation.

Ghana will face Algeria on Saturday, August 19, for a slot in the semi-finals of the competition.

The game is scheduled to kick off at the Stade Municipal de Berkane with kick-off scheduled at 16:00 GMT.
