Kansas City Chiefs star Rashee Rice has filed for bankruptcy amid his ongoing legal battles, according to federal court documents.
Rice, 26, filed in the Northern District of Texas bankruptcy court, according to ESPN, while also claiming that he has just $13,640 in his personal checking accounts.
In the filing, Rice claimed that he has more than $3.45 million in outstanding debts.
The Chiefs wide receiver remains in a number of ongoing legal battles as a result of a high-speed crash near Dallas back in 2024. He previously pleaded guilty to two third-degree felony charges over the incident and spent 30 days in a Dallas County jail.
Additionally, Rice’s ex-girlfriend has alleged that the Chiefs star repeatedly assaulted her during their two-year relationship, which has posed another legal battle for him.
According to ESPN, his filing claims that one creditor is still owed nearly $980,000 as part of a settlement payment, while Rice continues to dispute some of the debts, including a combined $900,000 between crash victims and his ex-girlfriend.

From the $3.45 million in outstanding debts, Rice’s filing claimed that over $2.1 million of those debts are relating to his multiple civil lawsuits.
His filing claimed that he has less than $15,000 in his personal checking accounts, as well as $677,054 in personal assets.
According to ESPN, Rice used his Super Bowl LVIII ring as collateral with his attorney in the pending civil litigations. The ring was valued at $160,000.
The 26-year-old has entered the final year of his rookie contract with the Chiefs, where he is expected to make $1,560,711 in his base salary alone in 2026.
The wide receiver has starred in five games for Kansas City this season, making 20 catches for 243 yards and two touchdowns.
Back in August, Rice admitted that prison was a ‘reality check’ and a ‘learning experience’ for the Kansas City Chiefs star.
‘A learning experience. A reality check, and don’t focus on the past, focus on what’s going on right now,’ Rice said.
‘It was tough. It was mentally tough. They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates still, as well as my athletic trainer.
‘So besides the hard times in there, I kept my mind right, watching shows, and as much Kevin Hart as I can to laugh. And apart from that, just communicate with everyone else on the outside.’
