The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has paid a historic working visit to the headquarters of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) at the Olympic House in Accra.

The visit marked a rare shift in protocol as the Minister chose to meet the GOC board at their offices rather than summoning them to the ministry, a move seen as a sign of respect for the independence of the Olympic movement. The delegation was received by GOC President Richard Akpokavie and members of the committee’s executive board.

During the meeting, discussions focused on preparations for major international competitions, particularly the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Both parties emphasized the need to move away from last-minute preparations and instead adopt long-term athlete development and scientific training methods.

A key highlight of the visit was the GOC’s official endorsement of the newly established Ghana Sports Fund. To demonstrate their commitment, members of the GOC board made a personal donation toward the fund to encourage greater private sector participation.

The Minister commended the gesture, describing it as a strong example of leadership and collective responsibility in the development of sports in Ghana.
