Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi will face each other in the Finalissima Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi will face each other in the Finalissima

The 2026 Finalissima between Spain and Argentina, scheduled to take place in Qatar, is now in doubt following Israel and USA’s missile attack on Iran.

The much-anticipated match was set for March 27, to determine the overall champion as the European champions face the South American champions.

Qatar, located in the Middle East, now faces serious security concerns amid the ongoing war, with the risk that civilians in the country could be impacted if missiles land there.

Following the exchange of missiles between Iran and Israel, which began on February 28, 2026, all football-related activities were suspended indefinitely.

FIFA official explains what would happen if Iran boycotts 2026 World Cup

It was announced that new dates for fixtures and the resumption of football activities will be communicated later.

“The Qatar Football Association announces the postponement of all tournaments, competitions, and matches, effective from today and until further notice. The new dates for the resumption of competitions will be announced in due course through the Association’s official channels,” the Qatar FA posted on X.

With this development, the Finalissima scheduled to take place in Doha is now in serious doubt should the conflict continue in the coming days.

The Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has yet to address concerns regarding the safety of officials in Qatar as the war rages on.
