Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has expressed disappointment in Afenyo-Markin for asking Dzifa Gomashie, the minister-designate for tourism, culture, and creative arts certain types of questions when she appeared before the Appointments Committee.

In an interview with TV3 on January 22, 2025, Akofa Edjeani said some of the questions posed by the ranking member of the Appointments Committee to Dzifa Gomashie were completely unnecessary.

She emphasised that the vetting process was prolonged due to Afenyo-Markin’s line of questioning.

“Some of the questions, to me, were totally unnecessary. But she did well to answer all of them; she was well composed. Yes! I am talking about the Minority Leader’s questions. I am entitled to my opinion, so to me, some of the questions were unnecessary,” she said.

Dzifa Gomashie appeared before the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, for vetting, which will determine her confirmation as the substantive Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

She was nominated for the position on January 16, 2025, in a statement signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.

Having served as Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture under the Mahama administration from 2013 to 2017, Dzifa Gomashie is also a two-term Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency, where she has championed development and community empowerment initiatives.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie holds an MPhil in African Studies from the Institute of African Studies.

She earned a diploma in Theatre Arts and a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Management from the University of Ghana.
