Veteran Ghanaian filmmaker Socrate Safo has openly expressed envy toward creatives affiliated with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), citing what he describes as a deeper appreciation for artistic talent by that party.

During a discussion on Accra-based Okay FM, the outspoken supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) criticized his own party for what he described as a dismissive attitude toward creative professionals during its time in government.

“I get jealous of my colleagues in the NDC. Their people have shown that they acknowledge their depth as creatives and are making good use of them. Our people on the other hand will look at you in a very condescending manner thinking they are better than you,” Safo stated.

His remarks came in the wake of actress Kalsoume Sinare’s appointment as Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, a move he praised as evidence of the NDC’s willingness to empower artists and utilize their potential for national development.

According to Safo, the contrast between how the two major political parties treat creative talents is stark.

He believes the NPP, his own party, has often failed to recognize the value of individuals in the creative arts sector simply because they lack traditional academic qualifications.

“We had the creatives who could do excellent jobs but they were overlooked just because they claim they don’t have degrees,” Socrate Safo lamented.
