Broadcast journalist, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah

Ghanaian broadcast journalist Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has sparked controversy after questioning the appointment of Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

President John Dramani Mahama made the appointment on January 16, 2025, tasking Gyamfi with setting up the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key promise in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.

However, Afrifa-Mensah expressed his dissatisfaction with the appointment on Facebook, which led to widespread criticism from social media users.

He wrote: “Sammy Gyamfi, who worked for Exton Cubic, the company that was close to acquiring Nhyinahin Bauxite, is the new CEO PMMC? 🤐🤐🤐”.

Many argued that Afrifa-Mensah is no match for Gyamfi’s intellectual capacity, competence, skills, and ability and that he should refrain from commenting on the matter.

One user Hussein Ibrahim wrote, “Return the car you stole and stop chopping married women Ofui”.

Ellinam Foli also said, “Says the local community chief who is moving with his stomach under hunger directives!!”
