Sammy Gyamfi has been appointed as acting MD of PMMC Sammy Gyamfi has been appointed as acting MD of PMMC

The National Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana has congratulated Sammy Gyamfi on his appointment as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

The group, in a statement issued on Friday, September 17, commended Sammy Gyamfi for his appointment, expressing optimism that his appointment will mark a dawn of growth in the sector.

“This appointment marks a significant milestone, and we are optimistic that his leadership will contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Ghana’s mining sector,” part of the statement read.

While commending Sammy Gyamfi for the appointment, the group reminded the NDC government of its promise to the small-scale mining industry. It urged the government to honor its campaign promise and ensure the development of the sector.

The group noted with belief that Sammy Gyamfi’s presence in the sector will spur growth and ensure that investors in the industry enjoy the benefits of their investment.

“During the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s campaign activities, the party’s Campaign Committee on Mining engaged us, the key stakeholders in the small-scale mining sector. The party’s campaign manifesto clearly outlined policies that addressed our concerns and represented our interests.

“We were inspired by their commitment and endorsed the NDC’s message with the hope that the mining sector would receive the attention and restructuring it needs under their governance.

“With Mr. Gyamfi’s appointment as Acting MD of PMMC, we are confident that he will collaborate effectively with stakeholders to promote the collective interests of the small-scale mining sector.

“We believe that his leadership will prioritize sustainable practices, transparency, and mutual cooperation for the betterment of Ghana’s mining industry and the nation as a whole,” the statement read.

The group also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to appoint an industry person with expansive knowledge as Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

“While celebrating this appointment, we also appeal to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to consider appointing a technocrat with extensive technical expertise and experience as the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.

“The current challenges in the small-scale mining sector, particularly issues related to water pollution and environmental degradation, require leaders who are equipped with both knowledge and practical solutions to address these pressing concerns,” the statement read.
