    Six arrests have been made after a man was shot and a gun was found in Manchester’s Gay Village.

    Emergency services rushed to Manchester city centre, where police found a man, aged in his 20s, with a gunshot wound to his leg inside a property at around 5am this morning.

    Armed officers descended on the scene and uncovered a gun inside the property on Richmond Street, which runs adjacent to Canal Street, with detectives believing the shooting was ‘targeted’. 

    Six men – aged between 23 and 26 – have been arrested on suspicion of affray and firearms offences. They all remain in police custody for questioning. 

    The man’s injuries are believed not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said.

    Investigations are now underway, with a cordon in place on Richmond Street this morning. 

    Forensic officers are working within the cordon and have been spotted going in and out of an apartment block. 

    A Mercedes G-Class vehicle – or ‘G-Wagon’ – has also been pictured within the cordon.

    Superintendent Stephen Wiggins, from GMP’s city of Manchester division, said: ‘This will undoubtedly be a concerning incident to be waking up to, not just for those who live and work in the city centre, but for the whole of Greater Manchester. 

    ‘Once the call came in, our officers acted quickly, making to the scene to established what had unfolded at the address on Richmond Street, detaining six individuals who we believe have been involved in this incident.

    ‘We have managed to recover a firearm at the address. 

    ‘Since 2023, our colleagues in the Serious Crime Division have taken 168 firearms off our streets in Greater Manchester, underlining how serious we take gun crime across the force.

    ‘I would like to reassure the community that we believe this is a targeted incident, and there is no wider threat to the general public.’
