Vice President of policy think tank IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has launched a scathing attack on the Electoral Commission, describing it as ‘incompetent’.

Sharing his views on the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency on JoyNews, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, Kofi Bentil called for the commission’s leadership to resign.

“This one group is not credible, they are not competent. They should go. And I said, they should resign. That’s the easiest way. If you don’t know your job, leave it. But if they don’t resign, they should be removed,” he said.

He criticised their handling of the situation, stating that even SHS students could have resolved the issue more effectively than the EC has done.

“If you assemble the facts of Ablekuma North and call five SHS students and assemble the facts, they will unanimously tell you that the EC is at fault, and this is a matter of incompetence,” he added.

His comments come on the back of the Electoral Commission’s announcement to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.

The EC explained the decision, saying the pink sheets from these 19 polling stations, though approved by party agents, were not verified by the presiding officers responsible for those polling centers.

The polls are scheduled to take place on Friday, July 11, 2025, in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
