Ghanaian broadcast journalist Bridget Otoo has highlighted that the ongoing dispute between the NDC and NPP MPs in Parliament should not be the primary concern of Ghanaians.

Her statement come in the wake of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, declaring four seats vacant, a decision which has intensified the conflict between the two factions.

In a post on X, the outspoken journalist expressed her disappointment that pressing issues, including the country’s poor educational system, have been ignored while undue importance is given to the disputes within Parliament.

“Children going to school for three weeks and staying home for over two months should be a concern, not this charade in Parliament,” she stated.

Meanwhile, today’s Parliament session is expected to be intriguing, as MPs from both factions are vying for Majority seats.

The NDC MPs insist they are the Majority and will take their place in that section of the chamber.

This follows Speaker Bagbin’s declaration of four vacant seats, elevating the NDC from a minority to a majority status.

The NPP MPs, who were originally in the Majority, are distressed by this development and have taken the matter to the Supreme Court, which has temporarily frozen the Speaker’s order.

As it stands, the NPP MPs are allowed to continue their roles as the Majority until further notice.

Currently, both the NDC and NPP are claiming to be the Majority in Parliament.
