Ghanaian musician, Sam Safo, popularly known as Showboy has publicly expressed his displeasure at being sidelined for this year’s Pent Hall Week celebrations at the University of Ghana, Legon.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the outspoken artist, best known for his popular track Ye Blow, questioned the decision by student organisers to invite Nigerian singer Mayorkun as a headline act while overlooking local talents like himself.

Visibly frustrated Showboy called out the event coordinators, particularly those from the University of Ghana, for what he described as a disregard for homegrown talent.

He challenged the rationale behind prioritising foreign acts, claiming he can outperform any Nigerian artist on stage.

“There’s nothing Mayorkun can bring that I can’t deliver better,” he stated in the video. “You choose someone from outside over your own? That’s not how to support Ghana music.”

His comments have sparked debate online, with some social media users supporting his stance on promoting local talent. In contrast, others defended the inclusion of international performers to boost the event’s appeal.
