Popular Nollywood actor and philanthropist Williams Uchemba has sparked debate online after calling for the public execution of kidnappers in Nigeria.

In a recent video shared on his social media page, Uchemba expressed frustration over the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity, questioning why the punishment prescribed by law is rarely enforced.
The actor noted that the penalty for kidnapping under Nigerian law is death, yet the public hardly ever hears about convictions or executions of those arrested for such crimes.
Uchemba urged the government to introduce a dedicated television channel that would publicly show how kidnapping cases are handled from arrest to sentencing, similar to how reality shows like Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) are broadcast.
“The punishment for kidnapping is death. I don’t know why, when it’s time to execute that constitution, we’re not as vocal as we should be. When these kidnappers are caught, we don’t hear anything, whether they’re being imprisoned or executed. Nigeria needs to have a special channel that will be showing how all these kidnapping cases are handled, just like BBNaija.” He said
The actor’s comments have sparked a lot of attention, generating mixed reactions from Nigerians. Most people seem to agree with his suggestions, expressing hope that implementing them could lead to a reduction in insecurity across the country.
