Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has announced that he may enter politics and contest the Ablekuma South parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections.

Shatta Wale made this disclosure during an appearance on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

According to him, his decision would depend largely on public encouragement and calls from constituents.

Shatta Wale stated that if the calls become stronger, he would consider contesting the seat as an independent candidate rather than representing any established political party.

“If people call on me to enter politics, I will do it, but I am not coming into it because I am rich; rather, I want to serve the interests of the people,” he said.

He emphasised that his potential political ambition is motivated by a desire to contribute to national development rather than personal gain.

During the interview, the musician also expressed concern about Ghana’s governance system and advocated for reforms to the country’s legal and constitutional framework.

According to him, Ghana needs to re-examine aspects of its governance structure to move forward as a nation.

“We are tired of the 1992 laws and constitution. We need to grow up from where we are. Other countries have grown, so we also need to look at how we can move forward,” he argued.

Shatta Wale’s comments add to a growing trend of celebrities and entertainment personalities expressing interest in political leadership roles in Ghana.

While he has not officially launched a campaign, his remarks have already sparked discussions on social media about the possibility of the award-winning musician entering mainstream politics ahead of the 2028 elections.
