Ghanaian reggae artiste and media personality Blakk Rasta has stirred controversy after alleging that Shatta Wale was the only artiste who demanded payment before agreeing to perform at the lavish birthday celebration of businessman Richard Nii-Armah Quaye.
In a video shared by GHPage TV and monitored on April 11, 2025, Blakk Rasta disclosed that Nii-Armah Quaye personally informed him that none of the top-tier performers at the event—including Diamond Platnumz, Davido, and Stonebwoy—asked for a performance fee.
“He never paid any musician at the RNAQ party,” Blakk Rasta claimed. “Richard Nii-Armah Quaye told me that Diamond Platnumz is a good friend of his and only requested to be flown in on a private jet.”
According to Blakk Rasta, Davido and Stonebwoy also performed out of goodwill, strengthening their personal ties with the celebrant.
However, when asked why Shatta Wale didn’t perform at the high-profile bash, Blakk Rasta explained that sources close to the matter alleged the dancehall star had asked about his payment upfront.
“The information I have is that Shatta Wale asked him how much he was going to be paid to put up a performance,” Blakk Rasta said. “Could this be the reason why Shatta Wale was dropped?”
The claim has sparked renewed debate about artiste conduct and loyalty, especially during elite events hosted by well-connected individuals. While some fans have defended Shatta Wale’s stance as purely business-oriented, others say the incident underscores differing values among Africa’s A-list acts.
