Ghanaian dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale, has named Medikal as his personal favourite while declaring Sarkodie the best Ghanaian rapper of all time.

In an interview with U.S.-based Ghanaian fashion critic Firestick, Shatta Wale opened up about his admiration for both artistes.

“My favourite rapper is Medikal. His music is for Gen Z, but if we are talking about the best of all time, I would give it to Sarkodie,” he said, acknowledging Sarkodie’s dominance in terms of longevity, influence, and consistency.

However, Shatta Wale believes the future of Ghanaian rap rests in the hands of Medikal. If Sarkodie were to step away from the scene, he argued, Medikal is the natural successor.

“Medikal will be able to succeed Sarkodie hands down. What Medikal does is what most of the boys learn. The way Medikal raps is how plenty of the boys also rap. It’s just that we don’t speak the truth here,” he asserted.

Drawing international comparisons, Shatta likened Medikal to global heavyweights such as Central Cee and Lil Baby, insisting that Medikal’s skill set rivals theirs.

“The way we have Lil Baby and Central Cee, Medikal is also on their level, just that we are in Ghana that’s why he gives those lyrics for the Ghanaian market. If he doesn’t make his lyrics to suit the Ghanaian market, he won’t eat,” he explained, addressing criticisms that Medikal’s style isn’t “hard” enough.

Shatta Wale also expressed appreciation for artistes who understand the business side of music and create content that resonates with mainstream audiences.

“I like rap music so much, but I love rappers who understand the commercial aspect of rap and that’s what Medikal does,” the Shatta Movement boss concluded.
