Wendy Shay has hailed Shatta Wale for giving up royalties on their hit songs Wendy Shay has hailed Shatta Wale for giving up royalties on their hit songs

Wendy Shay has disclosed that Shatta Wale has done the unthinkable by handing over his mechanical rights to their collaborative hit songs; “Stevie Wonder” and “H.I.T” to Rufftown Records.

The “Break My Waist” hitmaker shared on X on September 25, 2025, that she was shocked by the gesture, labelling it a rare act of kindness in the music industry.

‘I want to sell my music catalogue too’ – Wendy Shay

“I witnessed something yesterday and I still cannot believe it. Shatta Wale gave all his Mechanical Rights on my songs Stevie Wonder and H.I.T to Rufftown Records. I don’t know how many people can show such kindness in this industry. A king for a reason. More blessings King,” she wrote.

By giving up his mechanical rights, Shatta Wale has essentially handed over the royalties he would have earned from the reproduction and distribution of these songs.

This means that instead of receiving a portion of the royalties, Rufftown Records will now solely collect revenue whenever the tracks are streamed or reproduced on digital or physical platforms.

This is not the first time Shatta Wale has taken a generous stance regarding his rights in the creative chain.

Back in May 2022, content creator and media personality Kwadwo Sheldon praised the dancehall artiste for allowing him to create breakdown videos of his music without fear of copyright strikes, unlike many artistes who strictly protect their content.

“Shout outs to Shatta Wale for not copyrighting my breakdown videos… A real one!!” Sheldon posted.
