Ghanaian Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has heaped praises on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, while also clarifying his absence from the four-day Dote Yie (traditional burial rites) of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, which concluded on September 18, 2025.

Speaking during a TikTok live session, Shatta Wale explained that his decision not to attend the funeral was out of caution.

According to him, he did not receive an official invitation and was concerned that showing up uninvited could be misinterpreted by the public.

“I wanted to attend the funeral, but nobody invited me. I didn’t want to show up uninvited and have people think I was there to misbehave, so I honored the occasion from my home instead,” he explained.

Before addressing the Asantehene directly, Shatta Wale stood up from his chair three times during the live session, a gesture he said was out of deep respect for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He praised the King for his integrity, calling him a ruler who always speaks the truth and stands for the people of Asante Kingdom.

“Otumfuo, you need to fear him because he does not lie to the Asante Kingdom and stands firm for his people. If I were in Kumasi, they would have to give me a job. Every morning, I would go to sweep in front of Manhyia Palace. Even if they asked me to sweep there three times a year, I would do it to learn and seek blessings from that royalty he represents,” he said.

The musician added that beyond his admiration for Otumfuo’s leadership, he also likes the King’s embodiment of culture and tradition.

“Do you think Otumfuo didn’t go to school? He did receive an education, but do you see how dignified he looks in his traditional attire?” he added.
